Five acres, twenty minutes east of Alamosa in the San Luis Valley. This is where Sustainability 1st is building its own headquarters — running our full solar, wind, and connectivity lineup on-site, alongside the site's own water system and land management work, so a visit here means seeing the systems work, not just hearing about them.
The site will run on a solar and wind microgrid sized against real local resource data and its own water system. Wastewater is routed through a leachfield into the surrounding arid soil, helping establish grass cover and reduce local dust rather than being hauled off or treated as a general waste-disposal problem. Soil revitalization work happens on the land that needs it before anything else gets built. When it's finished, the site becomes both our operating base and the clearest proof of what we build.
A method, not a showpiece
The flagship isn't meant to stay unique. It's a method, built to be repeated anywhere it's needed, not a one-off showpiece we point to and stop there.
Centralized power grids were built for a load profile that no longer matches reality. Energy demand keeps climbing, and the single-source and concentrated-source providers carrying that load are showing the strain — in rate hikes that show up on every bill, in fees that get added faster than they get explained, and in overland wired infrastructure that in many regions is decades old and getting more expensive to maintain every year, not less. That strain doesn't resolve itself; it gets passed down to whoever's on the other end of the line.
Distributed, site-built infrastructure is one answer to that pressure, not the whole answer, but a real one. A property running its own microgrid and its own water system isn't waiting on a utility whose costs and reliability are moving in the wrong direction. That's the case our flagship site is built to make, in practice rather than in a pitch deck: build it once, prove it works, and use that as the template for the next site, and the one after that.
Future sites won't be run directly by Sustainability 1st. They'll be structured as independent energy co-ops, owned and operated by franchisees, with our company providing the design, build, and technical assistance behind each one — the same model proven at the flagship, handed off to the people actually running the next site rather than centralized under one operator. Franchise opportunities are targeted to open in 2029, once the flagship site is built and running.
