Rural infrastructure contractor · Colorado

Rural infrastructure that works where the grid doesn't.

Sustainability 1st designs, builds, installs, and maintains solar and wind microgrids and rural connectivity infrastructure for land in Colorado. We're currently developing our headquarters and demonstration site in Costilla County — five acres in the San Luis Valley where those systems, plus the site's own water and land-management work, will be running in the ground, not just on paper.

What we build

Three service lines, one contractor, one site.

Solar microgrids

Generation and storage sized to your actual load and sun exposure, not a catalog default.

Wind microgrids

Turbine systems sized against real, site-specific wind data instead of optimistic regional averages.

Broadband & connectivity

Fixed-wireless infrastructure built for BEAD-grant alignment, without the multi-year wait on a utility timeline.

The flagship site

Twenty minutes east of Alamosa

We're building the site that proves the model: a working headquarters running on its own microgrid, its own water system, and demonstrating our full service lineup, side by side, on the same five acres. Groundbreaking is targeted for spring 2027.

It's a flagship, but the point isn't to have one impressive site — it's to prove out a method that can be duplicated wherever it's needed.

Why Sustainability 1st

One contractor, start to finish

We're a Colorado-based specialty contractor built around a design-build-install-maintain model — one company handles the system from concept through the years of upkeep after it's running. That's a different relationship than hiring a solar installer for one job and a well driller for another.
